Breaking News - CA Exams To Be Held 3 Times in a Year
Here is my opinion.
Foundation and Intermediate exams will now happen three times a year. What else can be done by the institute?
Ensuring that suggested answers are provided promptly. Currently, they often arrive after the revaluation window gets closed. It would be better to release them immediately after the exams, allowing for a window for comments. This would enhance transparency.
If the institute starts providing marking schemes, it would eliminate many discussions and enable students to engage in more constructive feedback and work harder for their exams.
Including a 50-70% MCQ portion would greatly enhance candidates' subjective understanding and analytical skills, particularly through challenging case studies at a level expected from CA students. Trust me, there is not a better way than subjective questions to properly examine a candidate.
The communication system with students should be drastically improved. We have witnessed cases where students struggle to get replies for even small queries, leading to weeks of confusion due to lack of clarity.
Aligning the result day and time with fixed exam days (similar to ACCA) would provide consistency and clarity to students.
Also, students, it is important not to have high expectations from ICAI but rather from oneself. ICAI operates in its own style.

While new reforms are being introduced, there are still areas for improvement. We can only stay optimistic about when these changes will be implemented. We can never be sure when they will happen.
In my opinion, the primary intent behind the current updates is to ensure that students can progress through their levels relatively quickly and commence their professional journey with minimal delay in case of a failure.
Additionally, these changes may motivate more students to join the course, helping achieve the goal of 30 lakh chartered accountants.
Regarding concerns about reduced packages for chartered accountants due to increased supply, I believe the number of students who eventually pass will remain constant.
And for those who are asking: the value of the course is not decreasing. It is worth emphasising that the value lies in the person undertaking the course rather than the course itself.

In conclusion, while the increased frequency of exams is a positive step, the institute should prioritise prompt provision of suggested answers and introduce marking schemes to enhance transparency and feedback.
